Why we started GOAT Pixels — and why we're staying small
We opened the doors this spring, in Amsterdam, after a few years of building things for other people in London. The name is a promise and a joke at the same time. Greatest of all time. Pixels. We like both halves.
Here is what we believe, written down so we can be held to it.
One remarkable thing beats ten forgettable ones
Most agencies are built to say yes. Yes to every brief, every timeline, every "can you also". Then they hire to keep up, and the work turns into an assembly line. We have watched it happen from the inside. The site gets shipped; nobody is proud of it.
We would rather take fewer projects and make each one the best thing that business has ever put its name on. That means saying no more often than yes. It also means the person you talk to at the start is the person building your site.
Your website has a job
It is not a business card. It is the first employee most of your customers ever meet — and it works nights and weekends. So we ask one question before anything else: what does this site have to make happen? More bookings, more calls, more orders, fewer questions. Then we design backwards from that.
If a page does not help with the job, it does not go in.
Phones first, because that is where people are
More than half of the visits we see now come from a phone, and the number only goes one way. So we design for a thumb on a small screen first and let the big screens follow. Most sites still do it the other way round, which is why so many of them feel like a brochure squeezed through a letterbox.
Fast is a feature
Nobody has ever complained that a website was too quick. We build light: no bloated themes, no forty plugins, nothing that loads before your content does. Speed is respect for the visitor's time and their data plan.
Honest about what works
We will tell you when something is a bad idea, including our own. We will show you real numbers, not vanity numbers. And when we do not know, we will say so and find out.
That is it. A small studio, a few strong opinions, and a lot of care per pixel. If that sounds like the kind of partner you want, say hello. We are in Amsterdam, and we pick up the phone.
