What a custom website costs in the Netherlands in 2026 — and what the money buys
Short answer first. In the Netherlands in 2026, a template site from a small studio costs €750–€2.500. A business site that is designed and built for you lands somewhere between €2.500 and €7.500 on average. Custom work — your own design, your own code, no page builder — starts around €10.000 at most serious agencies, and a mid-market redesign with strategy, content and integrations runs €20.000–€50.000. Above that you are buying a platform, not a website.
Those are market numbers, pulled from what Dutch agencies publish and what we see in briefs that reach us. The interesting part is not the range. It is what moves a project from one end of it to the other.
What actually drives the price
Six things. Everything else is noise.
- Design depth. A template with your logo dropped in is a day. A design system that survives ten new pages without a designer is weeks. Custom typography, real art direction and a layout that works from a 360px phone to a 32-inch monitor is what separates €2.500 from €12.000.
- Engineering. Page builders are cheap to start and expensive to own. Hand-built front-ends cost more up front and then just work: no plugin updates that break the header, no 40 scripts loading before your content. We build everything by hand — here is why.
- Content. Copy, photography, translations. The single most underestimated line. A site with nothing to say costs the same to build and earns nothing.
- Integrations. Payments, a CRM, a booking tool, an ERP, a POS. Each one is a small project with its own edge cases. Budget €1.500–€5.000 per serious integration.
- SEO continuity. If you already rank, moving to a new site without a redirect map and a metadata plan can wipe years of work in a week. It has to be in the base scope. We wrote down how we do it.
- The unusual stuff. Real-time 3D, a browser game, a configurator, an ordering system with your own kitchen console. This is where quotes diverge by a factor of ten, because most agencies have never built one. It is our home turf.
Where our own projects land
We publish starting points because it saves everyone a call.
- Brand & identity — from €2.950. Logo, wordmark, colour and type system, the files you need for print and screen, and rules so it stays consistent. Details
- Custom website — from €5.900. Design and hand-built development, fast by default, structured for search, with the copy and the launch handled properly.
- Brand + website + launch SEO — from €9.800. The full stack for a company that is starting fresh or relaunching: identity, site, technical SEO, tracking, Google Business Profile, first content.
- Ordering systems, client portals, WebGL worlds — quoted per project. Typically €10.000–€35.000. You get a fixed price after a scoping session, not an hourly meter.
All prices excluding VAT. Hosting and maintenance are separate and small: we run our own sites and our clients' sites on plain servers, not "managed" platforms with a monthly marketing fee attached.
The three costs cheap quotes leave out
Ownership. Ask who owns the theme, the plugins and the source. A surprising number of Dutch agencies build on a licence they hold, which means leaving them costs you the site.
Speed. A slow site is a tax on every euro you spend on ads and on every visitor Google sends you. Retail conversions move roughly 8% for every 0.1 seconds of load time, according to Google and Deloitte. Page-builder sites almost never pass Core Web Vitals on mobile. Custom ones do.
Maintenance. A WordPress site with 30 plugins needs someone to babysit updates every month, forever. That is €100–€250 a month you will not see in the quote. A hand-built site has almost nothing to update.
How to compare two quotes
Strip both back to the same scope: pages, features, content, integrations, launch. Then ask each agency three questions. What do you do about existing rankings? What happens if I want to leave you in two years? Show me a site you built that loads in under two seconds on a phone. The answers tell you more than the number at the bottom.
If you want a fixed price for your project instead of a range, send us the brief. We answer within a working day, with a number.
